FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does TRA-RF differ from the standard TRA PUR reeling cable?
The -RF suffix denotes the reinforced vertical-reeling build: TRA-RF adds an extruded central elastomer cord reinforced with high-modulus aramid ropes alongside the embedded textile anti-twisting braid and double polyurethane sheath. That central strength member raises specific tensile capacity to 30 N/mm² (1,800 N on 24 G 2.5 and 3,150 N on 42 G 2.5) so the copper conductors are isolated from vertical spreader pull.
When should I choose TRA-RF (double PUR) versus RXX (double PCP rubber)?
Choose TRA-RF when your portal-crane or spreader reel operates within −25 °C to +60 °C at up to 200 m/min and benefits from a compact, halogen-free, cut- and notch-resistant RAL 1021 yellow double-PUR jacket (1,100–1,620 kg/km). Choose RXX / RXX-D when the vertical reel requires higher speed (up to 240/300 m/min), a wider flexing temperature window (−35 °C to +80 °C), higher tensile loads (up to 6,000 N), or temporary water submersion to 50 m depth.
How are the three bending-radius figures (6 × D, 9 × D and 4 × D) applied on a reel system?
Each multiplier applies to a specific component along the cable path: 6 × D is the minimum drum barrel radius on the motorized spool (167 mm for 24 G 2.5; 205 mm for 42 G 2.5), 9 × D is the minimum radius over guiding devices and deflection pulleys (250 mm and 307 mm), and 4 × D applies only to the dead-turn anti-tension drum at the reel anchor point.
Why do the current ratings (20 A for 24 G 2.5 and 16 A for 42 G 2.5) differ from single-core free-air tables?
Unlike single-circuit base tables that quote 30 A for one loaded 2.5 mm² pair in free air, the TRA-RF electrical table already incorporates multicore grouping for 24 and 42 cores laid straight at +30 °C (20 A and 16 A respectively, at R20 = 7.98 Ω/km and 14.0 V/A·km voltage drop). When the cable operates wound in layers on a drum, multiply by the DIN VDE 0298-4 Table 27 drum-layer factor (0.80 for 1 layer, 0.61 for 2 layers, 0.49 for 3 layers).
