FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Is RXX / RXX-D sheathed in polychloroprene (PCP) rubber or polyurethane (PUR)?
RXX / RXX-D uses a bonded double polychloroprene (PCP) rubber sandwich sheath per VDE code (N)SHTOEU-J (yellow outer jacket with embedded anti-torsion braid). Although the legacy PDF filename includes the word PUR, both the VDE designation (N)SHTOEU-J and the Materials specification confirm PCP inner and outer sheaths. For a yellow double-PUR vertical spreader reeling cable, select TRA-RF.
Why do the Design and Materials sections mention both thermoplastic and EPR core insulation?
The RXX performance specification covers extra-heavy-duty vertical spreader reeling constructions built to (N)SHTOEU-J / (N)3GRDG5G: high-core-count spreader builds use mechanically stiff thin-wall thermoplastic/TPE-E core insulation to minimize diameter and resist radial crushing on the drum, while VDE 0207 EPR core insulation is used on equivalent rubber builds. Both sit inside the same braided dual-PCP outer sheath.
What is the difference between RXX and RXX-D?
RXX is the 0.6/1 kV copper control cable series (49 G 1 and 24 G 2.5 through 56 G 2.5, rated up to 240 m/min vertical reeling and 3,200–6,000 N tensile load). RXX-D is the matching 17.0–19.0 mm optical data cable containing 24 graded-index multimode fibres (50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm), rated up to 300 m/min vertical reeling and 4,000 N tensile load.
Can RXX be used underwater on grab dredgers and floating dredgers?
Yes. RXX / RXX-D is rated for temporary submersion in water down to 50 m depth and resists oil, ozone, UV, sulfur and urea, making it ideal for vertical motorized reels on grab dredgers and floating dredgers. For permanent subsea immersion, consult our engineering team.
