Fixed installation
Installed in double-containment fuel transfer pipes, generator day-tank pans and airport Jet A-1 hydrant pits.
Product
TraceTek TT5000 Hydrocarbon Fuel and Solvent Leak Detection Sensing Cable engineered with a hydrocarbon-absorbent swelling silicone-elastomer actuator layer that physically presses two internal conductive-polymer sensing wires (~20.
Typical values for this cable type, based on UL 913 / IEC 60079-11 / EPA 40 CFR 280 — confirmed in the datasheet and quotation for your order.
Application fit
Purpose-built for wet sumps, underground storage tank (UST) interstitial spaces, airport hydrant fuel trenches and data-centre belly-tank generator rooms where water is always present but only hydrocarbon fuel leaks must trigger an alarm.
Installed in double-containment fuel transfer pipes, generator day-tank pans and airport Jet A-1 hydrant pits.
Can remain submerged in water or damp soil without false alarms, yet triggers when a thin sheen of fuel contacts the jacket.
Passive 4-wire loop qualifies as an Intrinsically Safe 'Simple Apparatus' (Ex ia IIC) when driven through an approved zener barrier.
Static hydrocarbon containment sensing cable; not for dynamic machinery drag chains.

TraceTek TT5000 showing central support core, 2 fluoropolymer-insulated copper continuity wires, 2 concentric conductive-polymer sensing electrodes separated by a calibrated gap, hydrocarbon-swelling elastomer jacket, and black/yellow chemical-resistant outer braid.
| # | Layer | Material & reference |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 × insulated copper reference & continuity wires | 2 × 26 AWG stranded tinned copper conductors with fuel-proof fluoropolymer insulationMonitors end-to-end cable integrity and completes the 4-wire locating bridge |
| 2 | Inner conductive-polymer sensing electrode + spacer | Inner calibrated conductive-polymer electrode (~20.0 Ω/m) separated from the outer sensing wire by an open helical gapWater cannot compress the gap; non-conductive fuels cannot conduct electrically on their own |
| 3 | Hydrocarbon-absorbent swelling elastomer actuator | Proprietary cross-linked organosilicone/elastomer matrix that swells rapidly upon absorbing liquid hydrocarbonsRadial swelling forces the outer conductive sensing wire against the inner sensing electrode |
| 4 | Protective high-tenacity polymer outer braid | Abrasion-resistant Black/Yellow woven fluoropolymer/polyester outer braid (nominal 9.5–10.5 mm OD)Allows smooth pulling into slotted conduits while letting fuel wick through |
Bulk hydrocarbon fuel sensing cable for pulling into containment conduits and pipeline trenches
Pre-terminated modular lengths (1.5 m, 3 m, 7.5 m, 15 m) with metal or plastic connectors for generator pans
