FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How do the earth conductors and optical buffer tubes differ between HVR and HVR-D?
In standard HVR power cables (3 × 25 + 3 × 25/3 to 3 × 150 + 3 × 70/3), the protective earth conductor is split into three equal parts placed in the three outer interstices between the phase cores. In HVR-D (HVR-FO) hybrid cables, the earth conductor is split into two parts in two interstices, while the third interstice accommodates one or two loose buffer tubes containing 12 or 24 optical fibres.
What optical fibre combinations and tube colour codes are used in HVR-D?
HVR-D supports singlemode E9/125 µm (ITU-T G.652D, yellow Tube 1), multimode G50/125 µm (OM2 / ITU-T G.651.1, green Tube 1), and multimode G62.5/125 µm (OM1, blue Tube 1) with fibres 1–12 colour-coded per ANSI/TIA/EIA-598. In 24-fibre cables (50 mm² and above), Option 1 combines two 12-fibre tubes of different fibre types, while Option 2 places fibres 13–24 of the same type in a red second tube.
Is HVR / HVR-D governed by DIN VDE 0250-813 or DIN VDE 0250-814?
Medium-voltage (N)TSCGEWOEU and (N)TSCGEWOEU-FO reeling cables (3.6/6 kV through 12/20 kV) are governed by DIN VDE 0250-813, as stated in the AC test voltage specification. The reference to 'DIN VDE 0250 part 814' in the bottom standards row of the legacy datasheet is a typographical carryover from low-voltage NSHTÖU cables.
How does HVR / HVR-D compare with WG / WG-D and WXG / WXG-D medium-voltage reeling cables?
WG / WG-D is the standard-duty MV reeling series (up to 120 m/min, −25…+80 °C, 6–10 × D bend radius). HVR / HVR-D upgrades to a red 5GM5 chlorinated rubber outer sheath with GM1b inner sheath and easy-strip triple-extruded EPR-MV insulation for 180 m/min speed, −30…+80 °C flexing (−45 °C on request), and multi-pulley routing (12 × D reel / 15 × D pulley). For 300 m/min and 30 N/mm², select WXG / WXG-D.
