Construction

Layer by layer

Two rope-lay tinned copper power conductors (1/0 AWG to 500 kcmil, Black and White 90 °C EPR insulation) are cabled together with a flexible tinned copper grounding conductor and a customer-specified control-wire group in the interstices, wrapped in non-conducting tape, reinforced by an open-weave polypropylene braid and vulcanized inside a two-layer thermoset jacket.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why does Drilling Mast Cable use two power conductors plus a custom control bundle?
Surface mining blasthole drills and rotary top-head drives often use DC motors or two-pole high-current feeders along the vertical mast, while also requiring limit-switch, tachometer and solenoid control signals. Combining the two power conductors, ground wire and control bundle into one round braid-reinforced cable eliminates tangled multi-cable festoons on the mast.
How does the internal polypropylene braid prevent failure in vertical mast loops?
In a suspended mast loop or vertical power track, gravity and continuous up-and-down carriage travel pull downward on the outer sheath. The open-weave polypropylene reinforcing braid vulcanized between the inner and outer jacket layers locks the sheath mechanically to prevent jacket creep and corkscrewing.
Why is the insulation rated for 600–2,000 V?
A full 2,000 V 90 °C EPR insulation wall (0.080 in / 2.03 mm on 1/0–4/0 AWG and 0.095 in / 2.41 mm on 250–500 kcmil) provides extra dielectric margin against DC thyristor or IGBT drive voltage spikes and heavy mechanical pinch loads inside mast carriers.
How do I specify the control wires when ordering?
State the power conductor size (1/0 AWG to 500 kcmil) and the required number and AWG gauge of interstitial control conductors (for example, 4 × 14 AWG or 8 × 16 AWG) or provide the OEM drill model and mast harness drawing.
