Application fit

Is TXL Anti-Capillary right for your machine?

When an engine or chassis cools down after driving through water, vacuum pressure inside sealed ECU housings sucks moisture along the microscopic voids between ordinary copper strands. TXL Anti-Capillary seals those interstitial voids while preserving clean ultrasonic welding and crimping.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does capillary wicking destroy sealed automotive ECUs even when connector grommets are intact?
Standard connector cavity seals (mat seals and single-wire silicone grommets) only seal around the outside of the wire insulation. If an open splice, unsealed sensor boot or ground eyelet further down the harness gets wet, thermal cooling inside the sealed ECU creates a partial vacuum that draws water and road salt right through the microscopic channels between the copper strands into the ECU PCB.
How does TXL Anti-Capillary stop longitudinal water migration?
During conductor stranding, the interstitial spaces between the 19 copper strands are filled with a non-greasy, cured elastomeric compound before the cross-linked XLPE insulation is extruded over the core, blocking fluid and gas flow along the conductor.
Does the anti-capillary compound interfere with F-crimps or ultrasonic splicing?
No. Unlike sticky grease or powder swell tapes, the cured interstitial elastomer is dry to the touch, does not smear onto stripping blades, and is displaced cleanly at the contact points during high-pressure terminal crimping and ultrasonic welding.
When should I choose TXL Anti-Capillary vs GXL Anti-Capillary?
Choose TXL Anti-Capillary (0.40 mm wall on 22–14 AWG) for passenger-car ECU, sensor and body harnesses that use compact thin-wall connector cavities. Choose GXL Anti-Capillary (0.58–0.94 mm wall) for heavy-duty commercial trucks, buses and off-highway chassis harnesses.
