FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What is the difference between TXL, GXL and SXL cross-linked automotive wires?
All three use SAE J1128 cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) rated from -40 °C to +125 °C, differing strictly in insulation wall thickness. On a 20 AWG wire, TXL has a 0.40 mm thin wall (1.95 mm max OD), GXL has a 0.58 mm regular wall (2.40 mm max OD), and SXL has a 0.74 mm heavy wall (2.80 mm max OD).
Why does TXL use concentric 7- or 19-strand conductors instead of random bunched strands?
Symmetrical concentric stranding (7, 19 or 37 strands) creates a perfectly circular conductor core without high spots, allowing a uniform 0.40 mm XLPE wall and tight outer diameter tolerance so multi-pin silicone connector mat seals remain watertight.
How does European FLR2X compare with North American TXL?
FLR2X-A (per DIN 72551 / ISO 6722-1 Class C) is the European metric counterpart to TXL, using electron-beam cross-linked polyethylene (-40 to +125 °C) over metric cross-sections (0.35, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 mm²).
What is anti-capillary (water-blocked) TXL wire used for?
In engine-bay harnesses where one end of a wire connects to an unsealed ground eyelet and the other enters a sealed ECU, pressure differentials during cooling can suck water along the interstices between copper strands. Anti-capillary TXL fills the strand interstices to block moisture wicking.
