FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How is the copper screen arranged in (N)12YRDC11Y-J/O?
The 12Y TPE-E insulated cores are stranded in short pitch around a central aramid carrier, wrapped with a low-friction synthetic separating tape, and enclosed by an overall tinned copper wire braid (≥ 80 % coverage) immediately beneath the 11Y polyurethane jacket.
Why use screened single-core (N)12YRDC11Y-O 1×25 to 1×185 mm² cables in drag chains?
For high-current VFD crane drives above 50 mm² where a 4-core cable would exceed the chain's minimum bending radius, three individual screened single-core leads can be laid side-by-side with a much smaller outer diameter and tighter bend radius.
How should the tinned copper braid screen be terminated at the inverter cabinet?
Bond the braid 360° at both the inverter output and motor terminal box using EMC metal cable glands or wide braided earthing straps to provide a low-inductance return path for high-frequency common-mode currents.
Can (N)12YRDC11Y-J/O operate submerged in water?
Yes. The 11Y polyurethane sheath is hydrolysis- and microbe-resistant and rated to AD8 for permanent submersion in non-drinking water down to 50 m depth.
