Application fit

Is 3GSLTOE right for your machine?

Engineered specifically for gravity-fed spreader collector baskets on STS and RTG container cranes, where the cable coils under its own weight without a motorised reel.

Spreader gravity collector basket

Suitable

Primary duty — core geometry and anti-torsion construction coil cleanly into conical spreader baskets at high hoist speeds.

Free-hanging vertical run

Suitable

Supports up to 60 m free-hanging drop between crane trolley bellmouth and spreader basket.

Motorised monospiral reel

Not suitable

Not designed for horizontal gantry travel monospiral or cylindrical drums.

Use (N)SHTÖU Reeling

Festoon & line chain

Not suitable

Round anti-torsion basket profile is unsuitable for tight C-rail festoon loops.

Use NGFLGÖU Flat Festoon

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why does 3GSLTOE use aramid threads woven around lead ball cords at the centre?
In a gravity-fed collector basket on a container crane, the spreader cable is not pulled onto a motorized drum — it must fall cleanly into the basket under its own weight at hoist speeds up to 160 m/min while supporting up to 50 m of vertical hanging weight. The central lead ball cords add controlled linear mass along the neutral axis so the cable coils predictably in a counter-clockwise lay, while the woven aramid threads carry the vertical suspension load with a safety factor of 5 so zero tensile strain reaches the copper or optical cores.
What basket dimensions and laying direction are required for 3GSLTOE?
Always lay 3GSLTOE into the collector basket in a counter-clockwise direction to match the internal bundle lay. The collector basket diameter must be at least 30 × D (where D is the maximum cable outer diameter, e.g. ≥ 1,200 mm for a 40 mm cable) and the basket height approximately 45 × D, while all entry bells and deflectors must maintain at least the tabulated free-moving bend radius (101 to 256 mm).
How do I decode the bus and fibre-optic suffixes such as +2×(2×1)C or +6×(2G62.5)?
In bus variants such as 36×2.5 + 2×(2×1)C, the cable contains thirty-six 2.5 mm² cores plus two individually tinned-copper-braid-screened twisted pairs of 2 × 1.0 mm² for ASI-Bus or Profibus communication. In fibre-optic variants such as 42×2.5 + 6×(2G62.5), the cable contains forty-two 2.5 mm² cores plus six optical tube elements each containing 2 graded-index 62.5/125 µm multimode fibres (12 fibres total). Similarly, 2G50 / 3G50 denotes 50/125 µm multimode fibres and 2E9 / 3E9 denotes 9/125 µm single-mode fibres.
Why does 54×2.5 mm² weigh slightly less (3,890 kg/km) than 48×2.5 mm² (4,040 kg/km)?
On smaller and medium core counts (up to 48 × 2.5 mm²), the central support element incorporates dense lead ball cords wrapped with aramid threads to aid gravity coiling. On the largest cross-sections and core counts (such as 54 × 2.5 mm² and 48 × 2.5 + FO), the cable's copper mass is already sufficient for gravity coiling, so the central support element transitions to a lighter round rubber filler reinforced with aramid threads.
