FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why do all 6, 12, 18 and 24-fibre versions have the exact same outer diameter (14.9–17.0 mm) and weight (280 kg/km)?
All four fibre counts use the same 6-element core geometry: six gel-filled ETFE (7YI1) hollow-core buffer tubes are laid up in a single layer around the central GFK rod, housing 1, 2, 3 or 4 colour-coded 250 µm fibres per tube for 6, 12, 18 or 24 fibres respectively. Because the tube diameter and 6-around-1 lay-up stay constant, the finished diameter (14.9–17.0 mm) and weight (280 kg/km) are identical across all 12 builds.
What is the correct Numerical Aperture (NA) and chromatic dispersion for the E9/125 single-mode versions?
For all four E9/125 single-mode builds (6E9/125 through 24E9/125), the Numerical Aperture is 0.14 ± 0.02 and maximum chromatic dispersion is 3.5 ps/(nm·km) at 1300/1550 nm (with maximum attenuation of 0.4 dB/km at 1300 nm and 0.3 dB/km at 1550 nm). Note that the legacy summary PDF shifted the last three columns of the E9/125 table (printing 3.5 under NA and 0.14 under 1550 nm dispersion); the table on this page restores the verified optical values.
Can this cable be used on vertical hoist reels or gravity-fed spreader collector baskets?
No. With a 500 N maximum tensile load, this cable is designed for horizontal/gantry cylindrical reels (up to 120 m/min, 250 mm bend radius; not for random-wound reels) and trolley festoon or cable-tender systems (up to 240 m/min, 125 mm bend radius). For vertical motorized spreader reels with high hanging tension, select RXX-D (4,000 N permitted pull, up to 300 m/min); for vertical gravity-fed spreader baskets, select BSKT XPRT SYSLTOE FO or 3GSLTOE.
How do I choose between G62.5/125, G50/125 and E9/125 optical fibres?
Match the fibre category to your crane's optical transceivers and link budget: E9/125 µm single-mode (OS2, 1300/1550 nm, ≤ 0.4/0.3 dB/km) supports the longest gantry travel distances and multi-gigabit/HD video backbones; G50/125 µm multimode (OM2, 850/1300 nm, ≥ 400/1200 MHz·km) suits industrial Fast/Gigabit Ethernet and Profinet switches; and G62.5/125 µm multimode (OM1, 850/1300 nm, ≥ 400/600 MHz·km, NA 0.275) matches legacy FDDI and optical fieldbus transceivers.
