Application fit

Is EN 50264-2-2 right for your machine?

EN 50264-2-2 is the heavy-duty standard-wall multicore power and control cable for under-frame bogie wiring, roof-mounted HVAC feeds, auxiliary converters and exposed coach runs where thicker mechanical wall protection is required.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Under-frame conduit/tray runs, traction converter auxiliaries, brake control and car-body power distribution.

VFD inverter to AC motor screened feeder

Suitable

Available in MMS tinned-copper braid screened execution for EMC-protected rolling-stock auxiliary feeds.

Trailing & towing

With conditions

Tolerates coach vibration and bogie-to-underframe static flexing; not for ground-drag trailing.

Use EN 50264-3-2

Energy chain / drag chain

Not suitable

For high-density cabinet and desk wiring in 300 V signal circuits, select thin-wall EN 50306-4.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does EN 50264-2-2 differ from EN 50264-3-2 and EN 50306-4?
EN 50264-2-2 uses standard-wall elastomeric insulation (EI 101–104, 0.8–1.4 mm wall) for maximum mechanical robustness on exposed under-frame and bogie runs. EN 50264-3-2 uses reduced-wall e-beam cross-linked polymer (EI 109, 0.4–0.9 mm wall) to save weight and conduit space at the same 300/500 V and 0.6/1 kV ratings. EN 50306-4 uses ultra-thin-wall (0.25–0.30 mm) cores rated 300 V for high-density coach interior and cabinet harnesses.
What do the suffixes MM and MMS mean in EN 50264-2-2?
In EN 50264 nomenclature, the first 'M' denotes elastomeric cross-linked core insulation, the second 'M' denotes the cross-linked elastomeric outer sheath over multiple cores, and 'S' denotes an overall metallic tinned-copper wire braid screen.
Which EN 50264-1 material grades (EI 101–104 / EM 101–104) are used?
Type EI 104 / EM 104 provides the widest specification: oil and diesel fuel resistance plus −40 °C low-temperature flexibility and full EN 45545-2 HL3 fire compliance.
Does EN 50264-2-2 meet EN 45545-2 Hazard Level HL3?
Yes. Tested as a complete cable to EN 60332-1-2, EN 60332-3-24 / EN 50305, EN 61034-2 and EN 60754-1/2, it satisfies R15 (interior) and R16 (exterior) requirements up to HL3 for sleeper and underground trains.
