FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What is the difference between FLRY-A and FLRY-B?
FLRY-A uses a symmetrical concentric conductor built from 7 or 19 strands (1+6 or 1+6+12), producing a perfectly round cross-section, slightly smaller outer diameter and zero loose strands during automated stripping. FLRY-B uses an asymmetrically bunched conductor with more, finer wires (e.g. 24×0.21 mm on 0.75 mm²) for higher flexibility.
What do the letters F, L, R and Y stand for in DIN 72551?
'FL' stands for Fahrzeugleitung (automotive low-voltage wire), 'R' stands for reduzierte Wanddicke (reduced insulation wall thickness compared with older FLY regular-wall wire), and 'Y' designates plasticized PVC insulation rated to ISO 6722-1 Class B (+105 °C).
When should FLRYW or FLR2X be selected instead of FLRY?
FLRY is rated for ISO 6722-1 Class B (-40 °C to +105 °C), covering cockpit, door, roof and rear body looms. Where harnesses enter the engine compartment or run near heat exchangers up to +125 °C (Class C), select heat-resistant PVC FLRYW or cross-linked XLPE FLR2X.
Why do OEMs specify FLRY-A for sealed connectors with single-wire elastomer seals?
Because FLRY-A's 7- or 19-strand concentric lay prevents ovality, the extruded insulation maintains tight circularity around 360 degrees, ensuring that silicone single-wire seals (SWS) and connector mat seals achieve IP6K9K water tightness.
