FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why choose FLR6Y (FEP) over FLR5Y (PTFE) when both are rated up to +200 °C?
PTFE (5Y) must be paste-extruded in finite billet batches, leaving short spool lengths. FEP (6Y) is melt-extrudable like a conventional thermoplastic, enabling multi-kilometre continuous spools with co-extruded colour stripes, lower processing cost and a completely non-porous gas-tight wall.
Why is FLR6Y-A with tinned copper rated to +180 °C (Class E) while silver/nickel-plated copper is rated to +200 °C (Class F)?
FEP polymer itself withstands +200 °C continuously, but tin plating on copper begins to form brittle copper-tin intermetallics above +180 °C. Pairing FEP with tinned copper yields a cost-effective Class E (+180 °C) wire; pairing it with silver- or nickel-plated copper unlocks the full Class F (+200 °C) rating.
Why is FLR6Y widely used inside automatic transmissions and wet dual-clutch gearboxes?
Hot synthetic ATF oils (+140 to +175 °C) contain aggressive friction modifiers and extreme-pressure additives that attack elastomers and polyolefins. Melt-extruded FEP is 100 % chemically inert to hot ATF and prevents oil from creeping through the insulation wall.
How does FLR6Y compare mechanically with FLR7Y (ETFE)?
FLR6Y (FEP) has a higher temperature rating (+180/+200 °C vs +150 °C for ETFE) and lower dielectric constant, whereas FLR7Y (ETFE) is harder and has higher mechanical scrape and cut-through resistance.
