FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How do CCS2 / CCS1 DC charging cables differ in internal core layout from CHAdeMO and GB/T?
CCS2 and CCS1 use high-frequency HomePlug GreenPHY Power Line Communication (PLC per ISO 15118 / DIN 70121) superposed onto the Control Pilot (CP) and PE lines, plus Proximity Pilot (PP) and 2–4 PT1000 contact temperature sensor wires. CHAdeMO and GB/T 20234.3 use a dedicated shielded twisted pair for CAN-bus communication alongside discrete analog handshake and 12 V/24 V auxiliary power cores.
Why do DC fast chargers above 250–300 A switch to liquid-cooled cables?
An uncooled 2×95 mm² copper DC cable for 300 A already reaches ~35 mm outer diameter and ~2.86 kg/m, approaching the ergonomic limit for drivers to lift and twist. Circulating water-glycol or dielectric coolant directly through or around 35–50 mm² copper conductors allows 500 to 800 A continuous current (400–640 kW at 800 V) in a lightweight 28–30 mm OD cable while keeping jacket surface temperature below +55 °C.
Why are PT1000 sensor pairs built into DC EV charging cables?
IEC 62196-3 requires real-time temperature monitoring at the DC+ and DC− pins inside the vehicle coupler so the charger can throttle current immediately if contact wear or contamination causes pin heating above +90 °C.
What voltage rating is needed for 800 V and 1000 V EV battery architectures?
All configurations are insulated for 1,000 V DC and 1,500 V DC per IEC 62893-4-1, covering both 400 V passenger cars and 800–1,000 V heavy trucks, buses and performance EVs.
