FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why does BCB012 use expanded PTFE (ePTFE) instead of solid PTFE?
Expanded microporous PTFE lowers the dielectric constant from 2.1 (solid PTFE) to ~1.48, boosting propagation velocity to 82 % and reducing RF attenuation by 25–30 % at 1–18 GHz while eliminating the pronounced 19 °C phase knee of solid PTFE.
How does the dual silver-plated copper shield construction work?
An inner helically wrapped silver-plated copper flat ribbon provides 100 % optical coverage and low high-frequency surface resistance, while the outer silver-plated round wire braid adds mechanical pull strength and ≥ 90 dB screening.
When should I select BCB012 versus BCB029?
Choose BCB012 (Ø 3.60 mm) for tight cabinet jumpers, cockpit harnesses, and medium airframe runs; select BCB029 (Ø 5.0–5.5 mm) when longer fuselage runs require lower dB/100m insertion loss up to 18 GHz.
Is BCB012 qualified for commercial aircraft cabin and cargo zones?
Yes. Its FEP or ETFE fluoropolymer outer jacket passes FAR 25.869 / ABD0031 flammability, smoke density, and toxic gas emission requirements and resists Skydrol and Jet-A1 fluids.
