Application fit

Is EXRAD 180B right for your machine?

Inside automatic transmissions, dual-clutch gearboxes (DCT) and e-axles, internal solenoid harnesses are continuously submerged in +150 °C to +180 °C automatic transmission fluid (ATF). `EXRAD 180B` resists aggressive synthetic ATF additives while preventing oil from wicking up the strands into external TCUs.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why do standard XLPE (TXL/GXL) wires fail inside automatic transmissions?
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE, ISO 6722 Class C) is rated to +125 °C and swells and softens when continuously submerged in +150 °C to +180 °C synthetic automatic transmission fluid (ATF). EXRAD 180B uses an electron-beam cross-linked fluoropolymer-elastomer (XLFE) that stays dimensionally and electrically stable in hot ATF.
How does EXRAD 180B prevent transmission fluid from reaching the external TCU?
Transmission pressure and thermal cycling force ATF into the unsealed solenoid crimps inside the oil pan. The cured interstitial anti-capillary compound inside EXRAD 180B blocks every capillary path between the 19 tinned copper strands so zero ATF can wick through the bulkheads into the transmission control unit (TCU).
Why choose cross-linked fluoropolymer-elastomer (XLFE) over standard PTFE or FEP?
Conventional fluoropolymers (PTFE/FEP/ETFE) are stiff, prone to cold-flow under connector seals and difficult to seal in elastomeric grommets. XLFE combines fluoropolymer fluid/heat resistance (+180 °C) with true elastomeric flexibility down to −70 °C.
Is EXRAD 180B suitable for oil-cooled electric vehicle e-axles?
Yes. Modern wet e-axles spray synthetic dielectric cooling oil directly over the stator windings, thermistors and resolver harnesses, making EXRAD 180B ideal for internal e-motor sensor leads.
