FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why use a 2,000 V VFD mining cable on a 480 V, 600 V or 995 V AC drive?
Variable-frequency IGBT inverters generate fast-rising PWM pulses that reflect at the motor terminals, producing standing-wave voltage peaks 2 to 3 times the nominal bus voltage. A 2,000 V Type II EPDM insulation wall prevents corona inception and premature dielectric breakdown that would destroy a standard 600 V cable.
Why does this cable have three grounding conductors instead of two like Type G-GC?
Standard Type G-GC places two grounds in two interstices and the ground-check pilot in the third, creating an electrically asymmetrical cross-section. This VFD cable places three equal green grounding conductors at 120° in all three outer interstices (with a central ground-check pilot) so induced high-frequency currents cancel symmetrically.
How does the combined braid + foil shield improve EMC performance?
The aluminum/polyester tape provides 100 % optical coverage against high-frequency radiated EMI (MHz range), while the heavy tinned-copper wire braid provides a low-inductance, mechanically flexible return path for lower-frequency common-mode currents (kHz range) and fault currents.
How should ampacity be adjusted when the VFD cable is operated on a reel?
When wound on a cable reel, multiply the 40 °C free-air ampacity by the reel correction factor for the number of wound layers: 0.85 for 1 layer, 0.65 for 2 layers, 0.45 for 3 layers, and 0.35 for 4 layers.
