How does SVT differ from SJT (or SJTOW) in wall thickness and diameter?
Both SVT and SJT are 300 V round thermoplastic cords, but SVT uses half the insulation thickness (15 mil / 0.38 mm vs 30 mil / 0.76 mm) and half the jacket thickness (30 mil / 0.76 mm vs 60 mil / 1.52 mm). As a result, 18/3 SVT has an outer diameter of only ~6.3 mm versus ~7.9 mm for 18/3 SJT—reducing cross-sectional area by 36 %.
Why is SVT offered with 41/34 AWG stranding in addition to standard 16/30 AWG?
Commercial vacuum cleaners and floor-care appliances require a cord that coils effortlessly into a user's hand without kinking. Using 41 strands of ultra-fine 34 AWG copper wire instead of 16 strands of 30 AWG wire dramatically lowers flexural stiffness and extends plug-neck flex life.
What gauge sizes are permitted for Type SVT under UL 62?
Under UL 62 and CSA C22.2 No. 49, Type SVT is restricted to 18 AWG, 17 AWG and 16 AWG in 2-conductor and 3-conductor constructions. For 14 AWG and larger, specify SJT, SJTOW or SJTOOW.

Yes. We extrude SVT in hospital-grade grey, pure white, matte black, high-visibility commercial-vacuum orange/yellow and custom OEM appliance colours.
