Application fit

Is RE-2X(st)Y right for your machine?

Combines the +90 °C thermal stability and low capacitance of thermoset XLPE (2X) core insulation with the chemical, acid, alkali and hydrocarbon splash resistance of an industrial PVC (Y) outer sheath.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Ideal for hot refinery pipe racks, steam-traced process lines and outdoor trays where +70 °C PE cores would soften.

Offshore platform & shipboard deck trays

Suitable

UV-stabilised, oil- and chemical-resistant Black RAL 9005 PVC outer sheath.

TBM gantry & advancing tunnel reel

Not suitable

Unarmoured PVC sheath requires ducting underground; specify SWA armoured execution for direct burial.

Use RE-2Y(st)Y SWAY

Energy chain / drag chain

Not suitable

Class 2 stranded conductors and thermoset XLPE insulation are for static process installations.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

When should I specify RE-2X(st)Y instead of RE-2Y(st)Y or RE-2X(st)H?
Specify RE-2X(st)Y when the cable runs on outdoor refinery racks, boiler structures, or hot-climate desert installations where +70 °C thermoplastic PE cores (RE-2Y(st)Y) could soften, but where the outdoor PVC outer sheath ('Y') is preferred over LSZH ('H') for superior resistance to aliphatic/aromatic oils, acids, alkalis, and solar weathering.
How do I verify that the core insulation is true thermoset XLPE ('2X') rather than thermoplastic PE ('2Y')?
True XLPE (2X) is cross-linked and passes the EN 60811-507 hot-set test at +200 °C under mechanical load without melting or dripping, whereas thermoplastic PE (2Y) melts completely above +115 °C.
Is RE-2X(st)Y available with individual pair screening (PiMF) and Ex-i blue outer sheath?
Yes. Both collective-screen RE-2X(st)Y and individual-plus-collective-screen RE-2X(st)Y PiMF are stocked in Black (RAL 9005) and Intrinsically Safe Blue (RAL 5015).
How should the screen and drain wire of RE-2X(st)Y be earthed in instrumentation and Ex-i loops?
To prevent circulating 50/60 Hz ground-loop currents from coupling into millivolt or 4–20 mA signals, the Al/PET screen and tinned copper drain wire of RE-2X(st)Y should be bonded to the clean instrumentation earth bar at one end only (typically in the control/marshalling cabinet) and insulated against chassis contact at the field transmitter or junction box, in accordance with IEC 60079-14 and EN 50288-7.
