Application fit

Is (N)TSCGEH3S Luminescent Trailing Cable (3.6/6 & 6/10 kV) right for your machine?

Purpose-built for 24-hour surface mines, arctic opencast pits and heavy electric rope shovels or draglines where haul-truck run-over prevention, −50 °C flexible cold endurance and 25 N/mm² towing tensile strength are critical.

Trailing & towing

Suitable

Continuous electroluminescent string glows through the transparent orange PUR sheath to prevent night and blizzard haul-truck run-overs.

Cylindrical / multi-layer drum

Suitable

Aramid central strain-relief yarns raise the permissible tensile load to 25 N/mm² (up to 18,000 N on 3×240 mm²) with ±25 °/m torsion.

Immersion & wet locations

Suitable

Polyurethane (PUR) outer sheath and 3GI3 EPR cores remain fully flexible down to −50 °C and resist oil, water and pit abrasion.

Festoon & line chain

Not suitable

Heavy-duty round opencast trailing construction is not intended for overhead crane festoon trolleys.

Construction

Layer by layer

Three Class 5 tinned copper phase conductors (35–240 mm²) with Type 3GI3 EPR insulation, inner semiconductive layer and cold-strippable outer semiconductive layer are laid up around a semiconductive central filler reinforced with aramid strain-relief yarns together with two semiconductive-covered split earth conductors (2×16 to 2×70 mm²), one 16 mm² EPR-insulated pilot core and a helically applied electroluminescent string, enclosed by a transparent orange heavy-duty polyurethane (PUR) outer sheath.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does the electroluminescent string prevent cable damage in opencast mines?
In 24-hour surface mines and arctic winter darkness, snow, dust or fog can hide a trailing cable on the haul road. The helically laid electroluminescent string shines continuously through the transparent orange PUR outer sheath along the entire cable length, making the cable route immediately visible to haul-truck, loader and dozer operators.
How is the electroluminescent string powered and does it heat the cable?
It is energized from a compact low-voltage inverter unit (up to 125 V AC, up to 2,000 Hz) at the feed end. It draws approximately 15 mA/km and produces no measurable heat, so it does not derate the current carrying capacity of the 3GI3 EPR phase cores.
Can (N)TSCGEH3S be flexed and relocated at −50 °C in arctic mining operations?
Yes. Unlike standard polychloroprene rubber cables whose dynamic flexing limit is −25 °C, the (N)TSCGEH3S transparent polyurethane (PUR) outer sheath and 3GI3 EPR core assembly are rated down to −50 °C for both fixed and fully flexible service.
Why are cold-strippable outer semiconductive layers used on the phase cores?
Cold-strippable outer semiconductive rubber peels cleanly off the 3GI3 EPR insulation without heat guns or solvents, reducing splice and termination time in sub-zero field conditions while preventing knife nicks in the primary dielectric.
