Application fit

Is J-Y(st)Y right for your machine?

J-Y(st)Y (`J-Y(St)Y...Lg`) is the benchmark fixed-installation telecommunications and building-automation cable across Europe for LSA/IDC punch-down blocks, fire alarm loops (`BMK`), intercoms, KNX/HVAC controllers and dry/damp indoor plaster or conduit routing.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Fixed building installation on/under plaster, in conduits, cable trays, BMS risers and fire-alarm loops.

VFD inverter to AC motor screened feeder

With conditions

Static Al/PET foil ('(St)') shields against electrostatic fields; for high-frequency industrial EMC, select braided JE-LiYCY.

Use JE-LiYCY Braided

Trailing & towing

Not suitable

Solid Class 1 copper conductors (0.6 / 0.8 mm); must never be used in flexing or trailing service.

Use LiYCY (TP)

Energy chain / drag chain

Not suitable

For public buildings requiring low-smoke zero-halogen fire performance, select J-H(st)H.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Decode the German designation J-Y(St)Y...Lg.
'J' = Installation cable ('Installationskabel'); first 'Y' = PVC core insulation; '(St)' = Static foil screen ('statischer Schirm' of plastic-laminated aluminium foil + solid tinned drain wire); second 'Y' = PVC outer sheath; 'Lg' = 'Lagenverseilung' (pairs stranded in concentric layers).
Why are J-Y(st)Y conductors specified in millimetres (0.6 mm / 0.8 mm) instead of mm²?
Under DIN VDE 0815, telecommunications and building installation cables use solid circular copper wires specified by conductor diameter: Ø 0.6 mm corresponds to ~0.28 mm² (max. loop resistance 130 Ω/km) and Ø 0.8 mm corresponds to ~0.50 mm² (max. loop resistance 73.2 Ω/km). Note that in the 2×2×0.6 / 2×2×0.8 configuration, the four cores are twisted as a star-quad (Sternvierer).
What is the colour code inside J-Y(St)Y...Lg?
Unlike DIN 47100 flexible cables, DIN VDE 0815 'Lg' uses a repeating 5-pair layer colour code: Pair 1 = red + black, Pair 2 = white + yellow, Pair 3 = white + green, Pair 4 = white + brown, and Pair 5 = white + blue.
When should I choose J-H(st)H or JE-LiYCY instead of J-Y(st)Y?
Choose J-H(st)H when building fire regulations mandate low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) cabling. Choose JE-LiYCY when you need flexible 7-wire stranded 0.5 mm² conductors and an overall tinned-copper wire braid screen for industrial process plants.
