Application fit

Is 1-CHBU / 3-CHBU / 6-CHBU right for your machine?

The CHBU series connects flameproof gate-end boxes, mobile transformers, shearers, roadheaders and pumping skids in underground mines where a pliable metallic braid armour ('B') is required for both mechanical crush protection and earth-fault screening.

Trailing & towing

Suitable

Interconnection between underground mining gate-end switchgear, cutter-loaders, conveyors and mobile substations.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Gallery wall hooks, shaft feeder branches and onboard machine power harnesses at 1 kV, 3 kV or 6 kV.

Immersion & wet locations

Suitable

Heavy-duty polychloroprene/elastomer outer jacket ('U') resists mine water, mud and hydraulic oil emulsions.

Motorised monospiral reel

Not suitable

Metallic braid armour is designed for armoured equipment interconnection, not high-speed crane reeling.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How are 1-CHBU, 3-CHBU and 6-CHBU differentiated by voltage rating?
In the French Charbonnages de France / AFNOR mining designation system (NF M 82-376 and NF M 82-377), the leading digit specifies the nominal phase-to-phase voltage class in kilovolts: 1-CHBU is rated 0.6/1 kV (test 3.0 kV), 3-CHBU is rated 1.8/3 kV (test 6.5 kV), and 6-CHBU is rated 3.6/6 kV (test 11.0 kV).
What do the letters C-H-B-U represent?
'C' denotes Class 5 flexible copper conductors (Cuivre souple); 'H' denotes high-dielectric cross-linked EPR core insulation; 'B' denotes the collective mixed copper/steel wire armour braid (Blindage) applied over the inner bedding; and 'U' denotes the extra-heavy-duty tear-, oil- and flame-resistant polychloroprene/elastomer outer sheath.
Why does CHBU use a mixed copper and galvanised-steel braid ('B')?
Combining tinned copper wires and high-tensile galvanised steel wires in the collective braid achieves two goals in one layer: low electrical fault-loop impedance to trip mine ground-fault relays instantaneously upon rock penetration, and high radial crush resistance without sacrificing cable flexibility.
Can CHBU cables be manufactured with integrated pilot cores?
Yes. Both 3+1 power-plus-earth constructions and assemblies with 1 to 3 interstitial 2.5 mm² pilot cores are manufactured to match French and international flameproof mining switchgear.
