FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What do the designations 10-CHKCU, 22-CHKCU, and 35-CHKCU mean?
Originating from French AFNOR NF M 82-376 / UTE medium-voltage standards, '10', '22', and '35' indicate the maximum system voltage class (6/10 kV, 12/20(24) kV, and 18/30(36) kV), while 'CHKCU' denotes a flexible copper conductor ('CU') with cross-linked elastomer ('C') insulation, semi-conductive/copper phase screening ('HK'), and a polychloroprene outer sheath.
Why is 22-CHKCU used inside compact prefabricated MV/LV substations instead of standard NF C 33-226 aluminum utility cable?
Inside a compact concrete or metal kiosk substation, the distance between the MV ring-main unit (RMU) and the transformer MV bushings is often less than 1.5 to 3 metres with tight 180° turns. Stiff solid-aluminum utility cables require a 15×D bend radius and apply excessive mechanical torque to 250 A plug-in bushings, whereas Class 5 flexible 22-CHKCU bends safely at 6×D.
Are CHKCU cables compatible with Euromold / Pfisterer 250 A and 400 A separable elbow connectors?
Yes. Both the triple-extruded HV-EPR insulation diameter and the strippable (peelable) outer semi-conductive layer of 10-CHKCU, 22-CHKCU, and 35-CHKCU are precision-extruded to fit standard EN 50180 / EN 50181 Interface A (250 A), Interface B (400 A), and Interface C (630 A) separable T-connectors and elbows.
Can CHKCU cables also be used as mobile MV emergency bypass jumpers?
Yes. Because CHKCU combines a Class 5 flexible tinned copper core, a flexible braided tinned copper screen, and a tear- and oil-resistant polychloroprene (PCP) rubber sheath, utility crews and quarries frequently use pre-terminated 22-CHKCU and 35-CHKCU reels as mobile MV transformer jumpers.
