FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does BCB009 achieve ~38 % lower attenuation than RG-400 in the exact same ~4.9 mm outer diameter?
RG-400 uses solid extruded PTFE (dielectric constant εr ≈ 2.1, 69.5 % VoP) and two round wire braids; BCB009 replaces the solid core with low-density expanded microporous PTFE (εr ≈ 1.48, 82 % VoP), which allows a 28 % larger silver-plated copper center conductor (Ø 1.26 mm vs 0.98 mm) for 50 Ω impedance, and replaces the inner round braid with a smooth helically lapped flat silver-plated copper strip.
Why is BCB009 preferred for 1090 MHz ADS-B/TCAS and 4.3 GHz Radio Altimeter (RADALT) runs?
Avionics transponders and radio altimeters have strict maximum cable insertion-loss budgets (often ≤ 3.0 to 6.0 dB per antenna line); at 1 GHz BCB009 loses only 29.5 dB/100 m (vs 48.2 dB/100 m for RG-400), allowing 60 % longer fuselage routing and > 95 dB shielding against 5G C-band interference.
How much weight does BCB009 save on an aircraft compared to RG-400?
At 56.0 kg/km vs 74.4 kg/km for RG-400, BCB009 reduces coaxial cable weight by 18.4 kg per kilometre (~25 % weight savings). Each production reel undergoes sweep-frequency impedance and return-loss verification, dielectric spark testing, and dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 test certificate.
Can BCB009 operate above RG-400's 12.4 GHz ceiling?
Yes, thanks to its low-dielectric-constant ePTFE core and smooth inner flat-strip shield, BCB009 operates mode-free up to 18 GHz. Each production reel undergoes sweep-frequency impedance and return-loss verification, dielectric spark testing, and dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 test certificate. Each production reel undergoes sweep-frequency impedance and return-loss verification, dielectric spark testing, and dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 test certificate.
