Application fit

Is UL AWM 1061 right for your machine?

By using a high-modulus semi-rigid PVC (SR-PVC) compound instead of plasticised flexible PVC, UL Style 1061 reduces the 300 V insulation wall from 16 mil (0.41 mm) to 10 mil (0.25 mm) while resisting sharp sheet-metal edges, backplane pins and high-speed automatic wire-cutting blades.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What makes SR-PVC (semi-rigid PVC) in UL 1061 different from standard PVC in UL 1007?
Standard UL 1007 uses softer plasticised PVC with a 0.41 mm (16 mil) wall. UL 1061 uses a higher-durometer semi-rigid PVC (SR-PVC) formulation that achieves the same 300 V rating with only a 0.25 mm (10 mil) wall, giving smaller bundle diameters and much higher resistance to pinch, cut-through and insulation displacement.
Why is UL 1061 preferred for automated wire processing and IDC connectors?
Because SR-PVC does not stretch or gum up stripping blades like soft PVC, high-speed cut-and-strip machines achieve clean, repeatable strip lengths, and IDC U-contacts pierce the 10-mil wall cleanly to grip the tinned copper conductor.
How does UL 1061 relate to UL 2464 shielded multicore cables?
UL 2464 multi-conductor control and computer cables typically use UL 1061 SR-PVC insulated single cores (for 28–20 AWG) cabled beneath an overall foil/braid shield and PVC jacket.
What if I need a 10-mil wall wire that will not melt or shrink back during hand soldering?
Select UL AWM 1429 (150 V, 80 °C, 10-mil cross-linked PVC) or UL AWM 3265 (150 V, 125 °C, 10-mil cross-linked polyolefin).
