FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why is Type TX preferred over Type KX or JX for cryogenic, LNG, and pharmaceutical validation?
Type TX uses high-purity oxygen-free Copper (+ Cu) and Copper-Nickel (− CuNi), which can be refined to far higher metallurgical homogeneity than Nickel-Chromium or Iron. As a result, IEC 60584-3 Class 1 Type TX achieves a ±0.5 °C tolerance (three times tighter than the ±1.5 °C tolerance of KX and JX) and resists rusting in condensing sub-zero and steam environments.
Can FEP-insulated Type TX cable be used directly as a validation thermocouple sensor inside an autoclave or freezer?
Yes. Because TX uses the exact same Cu/CuNi alloys as a Type T sensor, our sensor-grade Class 1 TX-FEP cable (−190 °C to +200 °C) is widely welded at the tip for pharmaceutical steam-autoclave validation and cryogenic freezer mapping.
How do I distinguish the Cu (+) and CuNi (−) conductors when stripping TX cable?
The Positive (+) conductor is reddish-orange pure copper (Brown insulation in IEC, Blue in ANSI) with very low electrical resistance, whereas the Negative (−) CuNi conductor is silvery-white (White insulation in IEC, Red in ANSI) with ~28 times higher resistance.
How should the screen and drain wire of TX / Type T extension be earthed in instrumentation and Ex-i loops?
To prevent circulating 50/60 Hz ground-loop currents from coupling into millivolt or 4–20 mA signals, the Al/PET screen and tinned copper drain wire of TX / Type T extension should be bonded to the clean instrumentation earth bar at one end only (typically in the control/marshalling cabinet) and insulated against chassis contact at the field transmitter or junction box, in accordance with IEC 60079-14 and EN 50288-7.
