Application fit

Is PolyK Cable-F002 right for your machine?

Generates a direct electrostatic charge (pC) or voltage pulse proportional to dynamic radial stress or acoustic strain—requiring zero excitation power for highway Weigh-In-Motion (WIM), axle classification and structural vibration sensing.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Potted into Brass/Al road-slot profiles (Class I/II WIM) or clipped directly to security fences and pipelines.

Immersion & wet locations

Suitable

Continuous moisture-proof HDPE or polyurethane outer jacket withstands highway de-icing salt and ground moisture.

Switchgear & control cabinet wiring

Suitable

Connects via low-noise RG-58 / BNC feeder lead directly into charge amplifiers or WIM roadside controllers.

Energy chain / drag chain

Not suitable

Piezoelectric transducer cable; flexing in machinery drag chains generates unwanted piezo charge.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

How does PolyK Cable-F002 (poled β-PVDF copolymer) differ from VIBRACOAX (mineral/ceramic piezo coaxial cable)?
PolyK Cable-F002 uses a flexible polymeric β-phase PVDF dielectric with low acoustic impedance (matched to elastomers/water), high voltage coefficient (g₃₁ ≈ 216 mV·m/N), and zero brittle ceramic cracking under tight 28 mm bends. VIBRACOAX uses a compressed piezoelectric mineral/ceramic powder inside a solid copper tube for rigid high-temperature or heavy-crush road/fence sensors.
Why must Soldering or Epoxy Curing temperatures on PVDF sensor cable stay below +90 °C?
The piezoelectric activity of β-phase PVDF is created by orienting molecular dipoles under a high electric field. Heating above +95–100 °C approaches the Curie/relaxation transition and permanently depolarizes the polymer. Always use low-exotherm (< +80 °C) road-slot grouts and crimp or low-temp Indium/BiSn solder joints.
Should PolyK Cable-F002 be read out with a Charge Amplifier or a Voltage Amplifier?
For Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) axle weighing, a Charge Amplifier (integrating pC charge) is preferred because its output is independent of feeder-cable capacitance and low-frequency temperature drift. For axle counting, speed trigger or fence intrusion, a high-input-impedance (≥ 10 MΩ) voltage amplifier can be used.
Why is a passive RG-58 feeder lead spliced onto the PVDF cable outside the road lane?
Because the entire length of PolyK Cable-F002 is piezo-active, routing it through roadside conduits would pick up unwanted vibration. Only the active 1.8 m or 3.6 m lane width uses Cable-F002, spliced via a waterproof joint to passive low-noise coaxial feeder cable.
