FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does PFA (UL AWM Style 11905) compare with FEP and PTFE high-temperature wires?
PFA combines the +260 to +300 °C temperature rating of PTFE with the continuous melt-extrudability of FEP (which is limited to +200 °C). Unlike paste-extruded PTFE—which is limited by preform billet size—UL 11905 PFA wire can be extruded in long, continuous, splice-free lengths with higher flex life.
What conductor plating is required for 300 °C service in UL AWM Style 11905?
For continuous operation up to +300 °C under UL 758 Style 11905, nickel-plated copper (2% or 27% nickel coating) is specified to prevent high-temperature copper oxidation.
Does UL AWM Style 11905 include a fiberglass braid?
No. UL 758 Style 11905 is a single-conductor wire insulated solely with homogeneous melt-extruded PFA (0.51 mm wall on 30–10 AWG; 0.76 mm wall on 8 AWG), with no outer braid, shield or jacket.
What is the minimum bending radius for PFA high-temperature wire?
Maintain at least 6 × overall wire diameter for fixed routing and 10 × overall diameter for flexing applications.
