FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What is the electrical difference between ASCB-C and ASCB-D avionics data buses?
ASCB-C (Versions A/B/C) uses a 120 Ω ± 6 Ω RS-485/HDLC Manchester-coded bus running at 667 kbps across dual-redundant twisted-pair trunks, whereas ASCB-D (Version D, used in Primus Epic Modular Avionics Units) upgrades to a 100 Ω ± 5 Ω transformer-coupled 10/20 Mbps Ethernet-class physical layer available in both twinax and 4-wire quadrax.
Why can't 78 Ω ARINC 429 cable be substituted onto an ASCB-C or ASCB-D bus?
Using a 78 Ω cable on a 100 Ω or 120 Ω terminated ASCB bus creates a 22 % to 35 % impedance mismatch at every stub coupler and terminator, causing severe signal reflections that corrupt Manchester/HDLC zero crossings and trigger bus fault warnings.
When should 100 Ω Quadrax be chosen over 100 Ω Twinax for ASCB-D?
Choose 100 Ω Quadrax when terminating into Size 8 quadrax contacts on Modular Avionics Units (MAUs) where two independent 100 Ω differential pairs (Transmit and Receive, or Bus A and Bus B) are carried inside a single shielded cable. Each production reel undergoes sweep-frequency impedance and return-loss verification, dielectric spark testing, and dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 test certificate.
Is this cable suitable for flight-simulator and iron-bird integration rigs as well as flying aircraft?
Yes, we supply identical FAR 25.853 airframe-certified spools for both flying MRO/OEM harnesses and full-flight simulator / iron-bird avionics racks. Each production reel undergoes sweep-frequency impedance and return-loss verification, dielectric spark testing, and dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 test certificate.
