FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

When should A-HHBH be selected over unarmoured JE-H(St)H indoor signalling cable?
Indoor JE-H(St)H cables have a thin unarmoured outer sheath intended only for dry building trays. When fire-detection or control circuits run through outdoor concrete troughs, underground ducts or road/rail tunnels exposed to rats and crushing loads, A-HHBH provides double galvanized steel tape armour with full LSZH fire performance.
What is the difference between A-HHBH and A-H(L)HBH?
Both cables use halogen-free core insulation, a halogen-free inner bedding, double steel tape armour and an LSZH outer sheath. A-H(L)HBH adds a fused longitudinal aluminium-copolymer moisture barrier '(L)' under the inner sheath for water-logged trenches, whereas A-HHBH is used in drained troughs, ducts and tunnel galleries.
Can A-HHBH be pulled directly from an outdoor trench into a building switchgear room?
Yes. Because every polymeric layer in A-HHBH is low-smoke zero-halogen (IEC 60754-2 / IEC 61034-2) and passes the IEC 60332-3-24 bunched vertical flame test, it complies with indoor building fire regulations without requiring an entry splice box.
How should the double steel tape armour of A-HHBH be grounded?
At the cable gland or entry frame, clamp the cleaned galvanized steel tapes with a constant-force spring or armoured brass gland and bond to the station main earthing bar to provide mechanical strain relief and magnetic interference screening.
