Start with the actual collection system
A gravity basket and a motorized vertical reel impose different cable-storage and tension conditions. Obtain the approved cable mass, diameter, free-hanging length and working limits for the specific crane. A central tensile member does not by itself prove zero strain in the conductors.
UTV publishes construction-specific basket-cable guidance with separate tensile, speed and temperature information. Such figures apply to that manufacturer’s construction, not every cable sharing a similar designation.
Illustrative vertical-load calculation
Assume a hypothetical cable mass of 7.60 kg/m and a 65 m vertical suspended length. Suspended mass is 494 kg and static weight is 494 × 9.81 = 4846.14 N, or 4.846 kN. These are assumed example inputs, not a measured Megamax installation.
For that mass accelerating vertically upward at 1.5 m/s², the simple rigid-body result is m(g+a)= 494 × 11.31 = 5587.14 N, or 5.587 kN. The increase is 15.29%, not 25.8%. This simplified model omits elasticity, reel dynamics and transient shock.
Horizontal trolley acceleration, wind and cable curvature need a vector and geometry-based load model. Do not directly add horizontal forces to vertical tension or assume a universal 1.95 deadweight multiplier. Operating-wind limits must come from the crane instructions.
Working load, breaking strength and fatigue
Compare the assessed load cases with the manufacturer’s permissible operating tension and complete termination capacity. Breaking-load divided by applied force is only an arithmetic ratio until the required design factors, fatigue duty and failure modes are established.
For illustration only, 75 kN divided by 9.4 kN is 7.98. Neither number is verified here, and the ratio does not approve a cable or termination. A 15 N/mm² handling limit in a particular specification must not be called a universal copper metallurgical yield stress.
Transfer load through the approved termination
Use the cable supplier’s and crane designer’s anchorage drawing, including any mesh grip, anchoring drum, central-member termination and service loops. Do not expose or splice aramid simply because a general article recommends it.
Request a duty-specific assessment of emergency braking, snagging, guide alignment, reverse bends, torsion, wind and fatigue. Inspect the completed system without transferring operational pull to electrical or optical terminations.
Evidence to request
Specify routine electrical tests separately from mechanical sample/type qualification. Require traceable construction records and agreed tests under the relevant loading, bending and optical-monitoring conditions. No production batch or service-life claim is made here.
Primary references and specification evidence
The references explain the cited technology or manufacturer example. They are not TEBAOFLEX product approvals or evidence that a supplied batch has passed the tests. Request the exact product drawing, specification edition, acceptance criteria and traceable records.
