FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does the 110 V Underground Lighting Cable differ from the 50 V Longwall Signal Cable?
While both share ASTM B174 Class K copper conductors, +90 °C non-chlorinated XLPO core insulation and an extra-tough TPU jacket across 18–10 AWG (2–9C), Underground Lighting Cable is rated and dielectric-tested for 110 V mine illumination circuits (such as 30 CFR 75.1719 longwall and machine lighting systems) rather than 50 V signal loops.
Why are multi-core (up to 9C) constructions used in underground mine lighting?
Multi-core constructions allow mines to run switched lighting banks, alternating phase/neutral circuits, ground conductors, pilot interlock loops and emergency backup luminaire feeds inside a single rugged TPU jacket between explosion-proof luminaire enclosures.
Can this cable be ordered with a high-visibility orange jacket or copper braid shield?
Yes. High-visibility orange TPU is available for overhead haulageway and longwall lighting strings where visual recognition prevents equipment snags, and an optional full copper braid shield adds radial crush protection.
Which AWG gauge is most common for longwall and roadway LED luminaire strings?
14 AWG and 12 AWG (3C to 5C) are standard for machine-mounted and roof-support luminaire daisy chains, while 10 AWG is used on longer gate-road and belt-drift lighting trunks to minimize voltage drop.
