Application fit

Is Torsion-Resistant Robot Control Cable right for your machine?

Purpose-built for multi-axis articulated robot arms (Axes 3 to 6) where simultaneous axial twisting (±360°/m) and bending occur inside corrugated dress packs.

Energy chain / drag chain

Suitable

Suitable for both 3D rotary robot wrists (±360°/m) and linear 7th-axis robot transfer tracks at 7.5 × OD.

Fixed installation

Suitable

UL 600 V AWM recognition allows continuous routing from robot controller cabinet up to the Axis-6 tool flange.

Self-supporting pendant & push-button drop

Suitable

Low-weight, flexible PUR construction works reliably on overhead suspended dress-pack spring balancers.

Motorised monospiral reel

Not suitable

Torsion-relieving reverse-lay stranding is designed for axial twist, not high-tension crane drum spooling.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why can't a standard linear drag-chain cable be used on Axes 4, 5, and 6 of an articulated robot?
Linear drag-chain cables are tightly stranded in concentric layers with a fixed lay direction to resist planar 2D bending in one axis. When twisted axially (±180° to ±360°/m) along a robot arm, a linear drag-chain cable tightens in one rotation direction and Bird-cages (buckles outward) in the opposite direction, snapping conductors within a few hundred thousand cycles. Torsion-Resistant Robot Control Cable uses reverse-twist core bundles, elastic central buffers, and PTFE slip wraps to absorb bidirectional twist.
Why do screened robot cables (DP) use a helical spiral copper D-shield instead of a woven cross-braid?
In a conventional woven cross-braid, opposing wire carriers rub and shear against each other when twisted ±180°/m, generating broken copper needles that pierce the core insulation. A spiral D-shield wraps fine tinned copper wires helically in one uniform lay direction between PTFE sliding tapes, allowing the shield to wind and unwind elastically over 5 million torsion cycles.
How should the cable be clamped in a robot dress pack to achieve 5 million torsion cycles?
Never clamp the cable rigidly right at the wrist joint. Allow a free torsional compensation length of at least 20 × to 30 × OD (typically 0.8 m to 1.2 m) between fixed strain-relief ball clamps, and use low-friction corrugated dress-pack conduits with spring-loaded retraction systems.
Is the matte black PUR jacket safe for automotive body-in-white welding and paint lines?
Yes. The special TMPU jacket resists hot welding spatter without melting through to the cores, and the entire cable is manufactured 100 % free of silicone and paint-wetting impairment substances (LABS-free per VW PV 3.10.7).
