FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What is the structural difference between TECK90 (CSA C22.2 No. 131) and ACWU90 (CSA C22.2 No. 51)?
TECK90 has TWO extruded PVC jackets: an extruded inner PVC bedding jacket under the interlocking aluminum armour AND an extruded outer PVC jacket over the armour, plus an HL (Hazardous Location) rating and voltage options up to 1000 V / 5 kV. ACWU90 omits the extruded inner PVC jacket—wrapping a binder tape directly over the RW90 XLPE cores before applying the interlocking aluminum armour and outer PVC jacket—making ACWU90 slightly smaller, lighter and more economical for non-hazardous commercial and industrial feeders.
Why does Canadian TECK90 use Orange, Black and Yellow outer jackets?
By Canadian mining and industrial convention under CSA C22.2 No. 131, jacket colour identifies voltage class on cable trays: Orange = 600 V control/power, Black = 1,000 V low-voltage power, and Yellow = 5,000 V medium-voltage power.
Can TECK90 be installed in hazardous (explosive gas/dust) locations?
Yes. TECK90 bearing the 'HL' mark is approved under the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC Section 18) for Zone 1 and Zone 2 (Class I), Zone 20/21/22 (Class II & III) hazardous locations when terminated with certified explosion-proof TECK cable glands.
When should MC-HL (UL 2225) be specified instead of TECK90?
For projects governed by the US National Electrical Code (NEC Article 501 / 505) in Class I Division 1 or Zone 1 hazardous locations, US inspectors require UL 2225 Listed Type MC-HL with a continuously welded and corrugated impervious aluminum sheath rather than interlocked strip armour.
