What does 'hermaphroditic' mean on a TFOCA or TFOCA-II connector, and why does it matter in the field?
Traditional connectors have male plugs and female sockets, meaning a cable must be unreeled in the correct direction and requires bulkhead couplers to join two reels. A hermaphroditic TFOCA/TFOCA-II connector has identical half-keyed shells and recessed/protruding alignment sleeves on both ends, so any connector mates directly with any other connector regardless of which way the reel was laid out.
What is the difference between original TFOCA (Gen-I) and TFOCA-II?
Original 4-channel TFOCA (used on legacy tactical air-defence systems) uses 2.5 mm ferrules in a larger shell. TFOCA-II uses precision 1.25 mm zirconia ceramic ferrules with individual spring-loaded alignment sleeves in a smaller shell that supports 4, 6, or 12 channels and allows easy field cleaning when the alignment sleeve retainer is unclipped.
Can a vehicle drive over the tactical fibre-optic cable without breaking the glass fibres?
Yes. The MIL-PRF-85045 tactical cable combines 900 μm elastomeric tight buffers, a dense polyaramid yarn cushion, and a thick polyether PUR jacket rated for 440 N/cm crush resistance and 200 impacts of 2.2 N·m.
Can you supply stainless-steel armoured rodent-proof tactical fibre reels for oilfield frac spreads?
Yes. In addition to all-dielectric MIL-PRF-85045 tactical cable, we offer helical stainless-steel spiral-tube armoured tactical PUR cable (≥ 3,000 N/100 mm crush) terminated with TFOCA-II connectors for hydraulic fracturing pads.
