FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why is stainless-steel wire braid armour needed on conveyor and tunnel LHD installations?
Along belt conveyors and underground roadways, spilled rock, tool impacts, vibration against steel brackets or rodent biting can pinch unarmoured LHD insulation and cause a false short-circuit alarm. The woven AISI 304/316 stainless-steel wire braid absorbs mechanical impact while conducting heat rapidly to the inner core.
How must the stainless-steel braid be terminated inside junction boxes?
When stripping SS-LDS at an end-of-line or splice junction box, trim back and sleeve the stainless-steel braid so no stray steel filaments can touch the two spring-steel sensing terminals, and earth the braid at the controller end only.
Does the metallic braid improve thermal conductivity or slow down alarm response?
Because AISI 304/316 stainless steel has much higher thermal conductivity than polymer jacketing and forms a thin woven mesh, heat transfers rapidly into the inner jacket, keeping activation time well within EN 54-28 limits.
When should SS-LDNS (PA12 nylon + AISI 316 braid) be chosen over standard SS-LDS?
Select SS-LDNS when the installation faces both mechanical impact and corrosive chemical or marine exposure—such as offshore oil platforms, sulphur/potash conveyors, refinery pipe racks and coastal coal-loading piers.
