What does the 'E' stand for in SJEOOW?
In UL 62 / NEC Article 400 nomenclature, 'E' designates Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) insulation and jacket, distinguishing it from 'T' (Thermoplastic PVC, as in SJTOOW) and blank/thermoset rubber (EPD/SBR/Neoprene, as in SJOOW).
How does SJEOOW compare with thermoset rubber SJOOW?
SJOOW uses thermoset EPDM/neoprene rubber rated -40 °C to +90 °C. SJEOOW uses thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), which widens the temperature range to -50 °C to +105 °C, reduces cable weight by ~15 %, eliminates chalky talcum separators and offers non-marking, cleaner stripping.
When should I choose 600 V SEOOW instead of 300 V SJEOOW?
SJEOOW is a 300 V Junior Service ('J') cord in 18–10 AWG for 120/208/240 V tools and appliances. For 480 V or 600 V 3-phase industrial equipment, heavy mining/stage feeders up to 2 AWG, or extra-hard-usage environments, select 600 V SEOOW.
Why is SJEOOW preferred in Canadian and Alaskan outdoor construction?
Standard PVC cords stiffen into rigid coils below -25 °C and crack near -40 °C, whereas SJEOOW remains limp and uncoils effortlessly at -50 °C.
