FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How can Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) reach 1,000 m when standard Ethernet stops at 100 m?
Under IEEE 802.3cg (10BASE-T1L) and IEC 61156-13, SPE operates at a lower symbol bandwidth (up to 20 MHz) over an AWG 18 (0.80 mm²) 100 Ω shielded twisted pair with only 44 Ω/km DC loop resistance and 7.0 dB/100m attenuation at 20 MHz, enabling deterministic 10 Mbps full-duplex communication plus PoDL power over 1,000 m.
What is the difference between IEC 61156-11/12 and IEC 61156-13 SPE cables?
IEC 61156-11 (fixed) and IEC 61156-12 (flexible) specify 600 MHz 100 Ω SPE cables (typically AWG 22 to AWG 26) for 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1 links up to 40 m. IEC 61156-13 specifies 20 MHz 100 Ω SPE cables (AWG 18 to AWG 22) for long-reach 10BASE-T1L links up to 1,000 m.
How much power can PoDL (Power over Data Lines) deliver over SPE?
IEEE 802.3bu and 802.3cg define PoDL Classes 0 to 15, delivering up to 50–52 W of regulated DC power at the powered device over the same single twisted pair used for data, eliminating separate 24 V sensor power wiring. Each production reel undergoes 100 % characteristic impedance verification, mutual capacitance and DC loop resistance testing, and dielectric spark/withstand inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
Which industrial connectors mate with SPE Single Pair Ethernet cables?
Our 4.0 mm to 6.5 mm OD SPE cables are designed for IEC 63171-6 (T1 Industrial IP20), IEC 63171-2, and IEC 63171-5 / 63171-7 M8 and M12 IP67 hybrid/SPE field connectors. Each production reel undergoes 100 % characteristic impedance verification, mutual capacitance and DC loop resistance testing, and dielectric spark/withstand inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
