Construction

Layer by layer

One, two or three stranded resistance conductors (copper for ultra-low Ω/m long runs, or calibrated CuNi / NiCr resistance alloys for medium runs) are insulated with high-dielectric PTFE/PFA fluoropolymer, wrapped with a thermal-diffusion glass/PTFE bedding tape, screened with a ≥ 70 % tinned-copper protective earth braid and sheathed in extruded PFA/FEP.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why are series resistance heating cables used instead of parallel cables on long transfer pipelines?
Parallel heating cables experience significant bus-wire voltage drop that restricts single circuit lengths to roughly 80–250 m. In a series resistance heating cable, the conductor itself is the calibrated heating resistor, allowing a single 400 V or 690 V three-phase supply point to heat 500 m to 3,500 m of pipeline with minimal voltage-drop distribution cabling.
Can a series resistance heating cable be cut to length in the field?
No. Because total circuit resistance R equals unit resistance (Ω/m) multiplied by length L, shortening a series cable at fixed supply voltage increases current and raises linear wattage W/m inversely with the square of the length ratio (P ∝ 1/L²). Always install the exact engineered circuit length.
How do 1-core, 2-core and 3-core series heating cables differ in pipeline layouts?
Single-core (1C) cables are used either in closed loops or applied as three separate passes connected in a three-phase star (wye) at the far end. Twin-core (2C) cables carry both go and return conductors inside one sheath for single-phase lines. Three-core (3C) cables integrate all three phases in a single jacket for balanced three-phase pipelines.
How is temperature class (T-class) compliance maintained on copper series cables?
Copper conductors have a positive temperature coefficient of resistance (+0.00393 K⁻¹), which slightly reduces current as temperature rises, while CuNi and NiCr alloys have nearly flat resistance curves. Both require active line-sensing RTD control and a high-temperature safety limiter per IEC/IEEE 60079-30-2 to guarantee sheath temperature stays below the T-class limit.
