Application fit

Is RG-401-U / RG-402-U / RG-405-U right for your machine?

Specify RG-401/U (.250"), RG-402/U (.141"), and RG-405/U (.086") for 3D-formed microwave transceiver modules, phased-array T/R bricks, radar exciters, satellite payloads, and cryogenic quantum interconnects.

Switchgear & control cabinet wiring

Suitable

Seamless copper tubing holds exact CNC-bent 3D shapes (3.2 mm bend radius on RG-405; 6.4 mm on RG-402) in RF chassis.

VFD inverter to AC motor screened feeder

Suitable

Solid seamless copper outer wall provides > 120 dB RF isolation with zero braid leakage between adjacent high-gain amplifier stages.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Direct-solderable bare, tin-plated, or silver-plated copper outer tube mates cleanly with SMA, 2.92 mm (K), 2.4 mm, and 1.85 mm connectors.

Energy chain / drag chain

Not suitable

Semi-rigid solid copper tubing is formed once prior to assembly; for flexible test leads, specify SUCOFLEX 100.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How do RG-401/U (.250"), RG-402/U (.141"), and RG-405/U (.086") differ in frequency and power capability?
RG-401/U (.250" / 6.35 mm) handles the highest CW microwave power (205 W at 10 GHz) with lowest insertion loss up to 20 GHz; RG-402/U (.141" / 3.58 mm) matches the internal geometry of standard SMA and 3.5 mm connectors for low-VSWR transitions up to 34 GHz; and RG-405/U (.086" / 2.20 mm) supports tight 3.18 mm bends and millimeter-wave operation up to 67 GHz with 2.4 mm and 1.85 mm connectors.
Why does RG-402/U (.141") interface directly with SMA connectors without an adapter pin?
The SMA connector interface was originally engineered around the .141-inch RG-402/U cross-section: the cable's Ø 0.92 mm (0.036 in) SPCW center conductor and Ø 2.98 mm PTFE dielectric serve directly as the male SMA center pin and insulator when soldered into a direct-solder SMA body.
Why is the maximum operating temperature of standard solid-PTFE semi-rigid cable limited to +125 °C?
Although PTFE melts above +327 °C, its thermal expansion coefficient is roughly 10× higher than copper tubing; above +125 °C (or +150 °C on RG-405), solid PTFE expands radially and extrudes out the open ends unless low-density microporous PTFE is specified.
When should I choose tin-plated (-00001) versus bare copper semi-rigid tubing?
Tin-plated copper outer tubing prevents surface oxidation in humid environments and wets immediately during automated induction or hand soldering without aggressive flux.
