Application fit

Is MGM 111 Type 320 / 321 right for your machine?

MGM 111 Type 320 and Type 321 are designed for 3.3 kV underground mine roadway feeders, gate-end switchgear interconnections, armoured face conveyors and longwall stage loaders where both individual phase earth-fault screening and pliable steel wire armour are mandatory.

Trailing & towing

Suitable

Pliable-wire-armoured roadway feeders, mobile transformer links, stage loaders and semi-mobile mining plant.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Underground gallery cleats, shaft insets, flameproof switchgear interconnects and crusher substations.

Immersion & wet locations

Suitable

Heavy-duty polychloroprene (RS4/EM2) outer jacket resists wet mine roadways, rock abrasion and oil.

Motorised monospiral reel

Not suitable

Pliable wire armour (PWA) is for armoured roadway and machine interconnects, not fast crane drums.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What is the difference between MGM 111 Type 320 and Type 321?
Both Type 320 and Type 321 are 1.9/3.3 kV pliable-wire-armoured underground mining cables with individual copper/nylon composite screens on the three phase cores. Type 320 is a 3-core construction (3 screened phase cores laid around an elastomeric cradle, using the phase screens and steel armour as the earth path), whereas Type 321 is a 4-core construction that adds a dedicated fourth unscreened tinned-copper earth conductor in the cradle lay.
How do MGM 111 Type 321 and MGM 112 Type 331 compare?
In TTK / BS 6708 mining nomenclature, MGM 111 Type 321 (and MGM 112 Type 331) provides 3 individually copper/nylon-screened 1.9/3.3 kV phase cores + 1 unscreened earth core + pliable wire armour, whereas MGM 112 Type 321 is the unscreened-core 4-core 1.9/3.3 kV pliable-wire-armoured variant.
Why is pliable wire armour (PWA) used instead of single-wire armour (SWA)?
Unlike rigid solid-galvanised-wire armour (SWA) on fixed utility cables, pliable wire armour (PWA) is laid up from multi-wire strands of fine galvanised steel. This allows 3.3 kV underground mine roadway feeders and stage-loader cables to be repeatedly advanced and re-routed as the longwall face progresses.
What is the function of the copper/nylon composite phase screen?
Each 1.9/3.3 kV phase core is braided with tinned copper wires and high-tenacity nylon yarns. If a rock fall or tool penetrates a core, it contacts the earthed copper/nylon screen before reaching a live phase, tripping the sensitive earth-fault relay immediately.
