What is the difference between TTYCYS (without hyphen) and TTYCY-S (with hyphen) under JIS C 3410?
In JIS C 3410, 'S' without a hyphen (TTYS / TTYCS / TTYCYS) denotes an overall collective electrostatic screen tape applied around the entire laid-up core bundle beneath the inner sheath. '-S' with a hyphen (TTY-S / TTYC-S / TTYCY-S) denotes individual electrostatic screening around every single pair to eliminate pair-to-pair crosstalk.
Why specify TTYCYS when TTYCY already has a metallic wire-braid armour?
In a standard TTYCY cable, the outer wire braid ('C') is primarily a mechanical armour grounded at bulkhead glands and has an optical weave aperture at high frequencies. Adding the inner 100 % collective copper/Al-PET tape screen ('S') with drain wire provides a complete 360° Faraday shield isolated from the hull armour by the inner PVC sheath.
When is overall-screened TTYCYS sufficient vs. individually pair-screened TTYCY-S?
Use overall-screened TTYCYS when all pairs inside the cable carry similar signal levels (such as 4–20 mA loops, RTD temperature sensors, or discrete alarm contacts) and only need protection from external engine-room EMI. Use individually screened TTYCY-S when mixed digital RS-485/audio signals in adjacent pairs could cross-couple.
Are halogen-free LSZH (SHF1) versions of TTYCYS available?
Yes. Alongside standard JIS C 3410 flame-retardant PVC sheaths, we manufacture halogen-free low-smoke zero-halogen (IEC 60092-360 SHF1 / IEC 60754-1/2) equivalents for passenger vessels, naval ships, and offshore units. Each production reel undergoes 100 % characteristic impedance verification, mutual capacitance and DC loop resistance testing, and dielectric spark/withstand inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
