Application fit

Is Dynamic Inter-Array Cable right for your machine?

Engineered specifically for dynamic water-column suspension between floating wind semi-submersibles/spars and the seabed or neighbouring platforms.

Immersion & wet locations

Suitable

Corrugated copper/CuNi metallic sheath and longitudinal conductor seal block water treeing over a 25–30 year fatigue life.

Free-hanging vertical run

Suitable

Torque-balanced contra-helical galvanised steel armour supports lazy-wave and W-shaped dynamic catenary hang-offs.

Offshore platform & shipboard deck trays

Suitable

Extruded HDPE outer sheath interfaces cleanly with dynamic bend stiffeners, distributed buoyancy modules and I-tube hang-offs.

Motorised monospiral reel

Not suitable

Submarine inter-array cable is installed from carousel cable-lay vessels and is not a crane reeling cable.

Use NTSCGEWÖU MV Reeling

Energy chain / drag chain

Not suitable

Large-diameter 33/66 kV submarine power cable cannot be installed in factory energy chains.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why cannot a conventional static seabed array cable with a lead sheath be used on floating offshore wind turbines?
Extruded lead alloy sheaths have low cyclic fatigue endurance and crack rapidly under continuous wave-induced platform pitch, heave, and yaw. Our Dynamic Inter-Array Cable uses a formed and laser-welded corrugated copper or copper-nickel radial water barrier (or wet-qualified EPR/WTR-XLPE screen) qualified to over 10⁷ bending cycles per IEC 63026.
Why does Dynamic Inter-Array Cable use two opposing-lay steel armour layers instead of single-layer armour?
Single-layer armour generates large torsional rotation when subjected to axial tension variations in a lazy-wave catenary, which can cause loops or bird-caging near the seabed touchdown zone. Contra-helical double wire armour balances torsional moment across the full dynamic tension envelope.
Why is an extruded HDPE outer sheath specified instead of bitumen-roving polypropylene yarn?
In the dynamic water column, distributed buoyancy modules, tether clamps, and the hang-off polyurethane bend stiffener must grip the cable exterior with a predictable friction coefficient and tight dimensional tolerance. Extruded HDPE provides a smooth, creep-resistant cylinder and eliminates bitumen washout.
How are the two interstitial 316L FIMT optical units used during wind farm operation?
One 24/48-fibre FIMT carries turbine SCADA, protection inter-tripping, and condition monitoring data, while the second FIMT provides full redundancy and dedicated fibres for Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) to monitor real-time dynamic cable strain and hotspot temperatures.
