Application fit

Is AS-Interface / AS-i right for your machine?

Purpose-engineered for rapid, tool-free insulation-piercing connection of pneumatic valve islands, conveyor photoeyes, safety light curtains (AS-i Safety at Work), and pushbuttons across packaging

Fixed installation

Suitable

Snaps directly into AS-i splitter boxes, conveyor rail channels, and M12 vamp drop adapters anywhere along the trunk.

Switchgear & control cabinet wiring

Suitable

Asymmetrical trapezoidal shoulder makes reverse-polarity connection of Brown (+) and Blue (-) physically impossible.

Immersion & wet locations

Suitable

Elastic EPDM/EPR rubber and PUR compounds self-seal around piercing needles to maintain IP67/IP68 washdown protection.

Energy chain / drag chain

With conditions

PUR version handles gentle festooning and conveyor bends; for tight multi-axis drag chains use round 2×1.5 mm² cable.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does the AS-Interface flat cable insulation-piercing connection work?
The 10.0 × 4.0 mm flat cable has an asymmetrical trapezoidal key along one edge that aligns the internal Brown (+) and Blue (-) 1.5 mm² cores directly over two gold-plated piercing needles inside every AS-i slave module or splitter. Tightening the module cover drives the needles into the Class 6 tinned copper strands without stripping a single wire.
When should I choose EPDM/EPR rubber vs. TPE vs. PUR AS-i flat cable?
EPDM/EPR rubber offers the highest elasticity and self-healing sealing when modules are repositioned, plus halogen-free performance. TPE is cost-effective and UL-listed for dry conveyor lines. PUR (polyurethane) provides superior resistance to cutting oils, animal fats, and caustic washdowns in machining and food plants. Each production reel undergoes 100 % characteristic impedance verification, mutual capacitance and DC loop resistance testing, and dielectric spark/withstand inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
Why are Yellow and Black AS-i flat cables installed side by side?
The Yellow AS-i cable carries both the 30 V DC bus supply and 167 kHz Alternating Pulse Modulation (APM) data for sensors and logic. The Black AS-i cable carries a separate 24 V DC auxiliary supply (AUX) so high-current pneumatic solenoid valves and motor starters can be switched without loading or disturbing the Yellow bus.
What is the benefit of the 2×2.5 mm² AS-i flat cable over the standard 2×1.5 mm² version?
Our 2×2.5 mm² AS-i flat cable maintains the exact same 10.0 × 4.0 mm external profile so it fits standard piercing modules, while lowering loop resistance from 27.4 Ω/km to 16.4 Ω/km and increasing current capacity from 8 A to 16 A for long conveyor runs.
