FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why do 28.5 V DC aircraft GPU cables require such large 95 mm² to 240 mm² copper cross-sections?
Turboprop and helicopter turbine starters draw 1,200 A to 2,500 A peak inrush current at only 28.5 V DC. Even a 2 mΩ loop resistance drops 4 V at 2,000 A, which can cause avionics under-voltage trip-outs. Using 95–240 mm² Class 6 copper keeps voltage drop within ISO 6858 limits.
What is the role of the small 1.5–6.0 mm² pilot core inside the GP 28V DC SC cable?
Standard 3-pin 28 V DC aircraft plugs (AN2551 / NATO / MS25018) have two large main power blades (+ and -) and a shorter 3rd interlock/pilot pin. The pilot core signals the GPU contactor to close only after the plug is fully seated and provides remote voltage-drop sensing at the aircraft socket.
When do operators prefer Twin Single-Core (GP 28V DC SC) over Symmetrical Multi-Core (GP 28V DC SF)?
Single-core 1×120 mm² to 1×240 mm² cables banded in pairs offer maximum heat dissipation at 600–800 A continuous current and allow easy field replacement of a single damaged pole. Symmetrical multi-core (GP 28V DC SF, e.g., 4×50 mm²) is preferred when a single lighter, rounder reel cable is desired.
How does the outer PUR/PCP jacket survive concrete runway abrasion and Skydrol spills?
Airport concrete aprons act like coarse sandpaper while exposing cables to Jet-A1 fuel, phosphate-ester Skydrol hydraulic fluid, and hot glycol de-icing fluid. Our cross-linked polyurethane (PUR) or heavy polychloroprene jacket with internal anti-torsion braid prevents jacket tearing and chemical swelling. Each production drum undergoes
