FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why split a 28.5 V DC GPU cable into 4×50 mm² instead of using 2×100 mm²?
By splitting the positive pole into two diagonally opposite 50 mm² cores and the negative pole into the other two 50 mm² cores (a 4-core star-quad), the cable achieves a much smaller, truly circular outer diameter (35.8 mm), flexes effortlessly in all directions on motorized reels, and cancels magnetic loop inductance by over 50 %.
Why does low loop inductance matter on a 28.5 V DC aircraft ground power cable?
When a turboprop or helicopter starter motor engages, current jumps from 0 A to 1,800 A in milliseconds (high dI/dt). Lower cable inductance (L·dI/dt) prevents transient voltage sag at the aircraft bus during starter engagement and reduces inductive arcing if a plug is disconnected under load.
How are the four main cores terminated inside a 3-pin 28 V DC NATO aircraft plug?
Inside the rear shell of a standard 3-pin 28 V DC NATO / AN2551 plug, the two diametrically opposite Red cores (e.g., 2×50 mm² = 100 mm²) crimp together into the Positive (+) main socket barrel, the two Black cores crimp into the Negative (-) barrel, and the interstitial pilot core terminates to the short interlock pin.
Is GP 28V DC SF suitable for motorized spring and electric GPU reels?
Yes. Unlike twin banded single-core cables that can twist over one another when wound onto a drum, the round double-sheathed GP 28V DC SF with its embedded synthetic anti-torsion braid is specifically engineered for motorized GPU cable reels and boarding-bridge pantographs. Each production drum
