A cleanroom class is not an unconditional cable certificate
ISO 14644-1 classifies air cleanliness by airborne particle concentration in a cleanroom or clean zone. It does not by itself prove that a cable has zero wear, zero outgassing or a specified flex life. Equipment suitability must be assessed for its intended use and the relevant test conditions; ISO 14644-14 addresses assessment by airborne particle concentration.
Report the specified particle-size thresholds, sampling locations, operating state, background and measurement method. Do not read an unspecified entry in a classification table as a universal zero-particle limit. A concentration measured beneath one moving cable cannot be transferred unchanged to another room, airflow arrangement or motion system.
SABclean is a manufacturer reference, not our qualification
SABclean is a SAB BRÖCKSKES product family. Its manufacturer publishes cleanroom-related data for particular SD models. Those statements must remain attributed to that manufacturer and do not certify a TEBAOFLEX construction or a substitute cable.
For orientation, SD 776 is an unscreened continuously flexible data/control option; SD 780 C adds an overall copper screen; SD 787 C TP uses paired conductors with an overall screen. The published construction references TPE insulation/sheath and non-woven wrapping. It should not be rewritten as a universal PTFE separator and PUR jacket design.
Obtain the exact part number and its current data sheet, suitability report and permitted operating conditions. Data and control variants can have different voltage descriptions and construction. A Class 1 statement does not supply missing electrical ratings, an application-specific cycle life or approval for torsion.
Identify the real contamination mechanisms
Potential sources include jacket abrasion against a carrier, contact between adjacent cables, wear at strain reliefs, loose material exposed at terminations and contamination introduced during handling. Their contribution depends on construction and installation. It is inaccurate to claim that every ordinary industrial cable contains the same talc loading or emits a fixed number of particles.
Evaluate the assembled moving system with its carrier, separators, connectors and routing. Use the intended radius, speed, acceleration, travel, payload and environment. Compare background with operating measurements and document the sampling duration and instrument sensitivity. If particle cleanliness must be retained after prolonged motion, include a justified ageing or endurance sequence in the assessment.
Keep particle, chemical and coating requirements separate
Low particle generation does not establish low volatile emissions. A process may require separate assessment of molecular contamination, outgassing, surface cleanliness, electrostatic behaviour or compatibility with cleaning agents. A dry-room humidity requirement likewise does not automatically define its particle class.
VDMA 24364 concerns substances that impair paint wetting. A PWIS-compatibility result has a defined test/application context; it is not a blanket guarantee that every silicone molecule, volatile compound or other process contaminant is absent. Specify the relevant test class and coatings or process conditions instead of requesting a context-free “100% clean” declaration.
Match linear flexing and three-dimensional motion
Drag-chain bending and robot-wrist torsion impose different stresses. A cable qualified for a linear carrier is not automatically suitable for twisting. For a robot application, state angle per free length, bend geometry, speed, temperature and cycle definition, and request evidence for both motion and cleanliness. Do not assign ten million cycles to an entire product family without the corresponding test conditions.
Installation and procurement checks
- Agree the actual electrical, motion and cleanliness requirements before comparing cable part numbers.
- Use the facility’s approved cleaning, packaging and transfer procedure; do not prescribe a solvent solely from the jacket family.
- Control cable contact, routing, strain relief and termination debris, using carrier and component instructions.
- Retain the manufacturer’s suitability report and confirm that the installed configuration falls within it. Where evidence is missing, arrange representative testing before accepting a cleanliness claim.
