Application fit

Is WF-8/G right for your machine?

Select WF-8/G for tactical field reeling drums where unjacketed field wires (WD-1/TT or WF-16/U) lack the electromagnetic shielding or heavy rubber jacket needed for tracked-vehicle crossings and RF-dense command posts.

Cylindrical / multi-layer drum

Suitable

Torque-balanced star-quad with braided shield and neoprene jacket reels smoothly on tactical drums in repeated field duty.

VFD inverter to AC motor screened feeder

Suitable

Star-quad symmetry plus ≥ 85 % braided Sn-Cu/steel shield isolates voice, SHDSL, and radar links from transmitter and generator EMI.

Trailing & towing

Suitable

Arctic-grade neoprene sheath resists wheeled/tracked vehicle run-over, diesel/JP-8 fuel, mud, and sub-zero flexing down to -55 °C.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does WF-8/G differ from WF-16/U?
WF-16/U is a light, unshielded, unjacketed 2-pair open wire (37 kg/km) for rapid infantry/pack payout. WF-8/G is a round, heavy-duty spiral-four (star-quad) trunk cable (135 kg/km) with larger 19 AWG (0.65 mm²) conductors, an overall braided metallic EMC shield, and a thick arctic polychloroprene rubber outer sheath.
Why does WF-8/G use a spiral-four (star-quad) core layout?
By twisting the four PE-insulated conductors symmetrically around a central axis and pairing diagonal conductors (Pair 1 = cores 1 & 3; Pair 2 = cores 2 & 4), the two pairs occupy the exact same magnetic center, yielding ≥ 70 dB side-to-side crosstalk isolation inside the braided shield.
Can WF-8/G survive vehicle traffic at road crossings?
Yes. The combination of high-tensile stranded conductors, a metallic wire braid, and a resilient polychloroprene elastomer jacket allows WF-8/G to withstand repeated tactical wheeled traffic and -55 °C arctic deployment.
What cable is used when a tactical switchboard requires 12 or 26 pairs instead of 2 pairs?
For multi-pair command-post switchboard distribution trunks, specify MIL-DTL-55021 / CECOM WM-130/G (26-pair neoprene-jacketed tactical switchboard cable).
