FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How are Types 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B defined in NF M 82-375 / SCGMS 19050?
Type 2A and Type 2B are rated 0.6/1 kV (1000 V service) for low-voltage coal-face machinery, whereas Type 3A and Type 3B are rated 3.2/5.5 kV (5500 V service) with semi-conductive stress control for medium-voltage shearers and mobile transformers. Suffix 'B' denotes a double-layer textile-reinforced outer sheath.
How is the protective earth conductor formed in SCGMS 19050 cables?
Under NF M 82-375, each of the three EPR-insulated phase cores is surrounded by a heavy tinned copper/textile braid screen. In contact with one another around the central cradle, the three phase screens collectively serve as the symmetrical protective earth conductor. Each production drum undergoes routine dielectric voltage testing, conductor DC resistance verification, and sheath dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.
Can Type 3A / 3B (3.2/5.5 kV) also be used on 3.6/6 kV mining networks?
Yes. The 3.2/5.5 kV insulation wall is routine-tested at 11 kV AC for 5 minutes—the exact same test voltage required by DIN VDE 0250-813 for 3.6/6 kV cables—making Type 3A/3B suitable for both 5.5 kV French and 6 kV international mine networks. Each production drum undergoes routine dielectric voltage testing, conductor DC resistance verification, and sheath dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.
How does SCGMS 19050 compare with British BS 6708 / SANS 1520-1?
Both standards use elastomeric cradles and flexible tinned copper/textile phase screens for coal-face safety, but SCGMS 19050 uses the three phase screens themselves as the full-capacity protective earth rather than a separate fourth earth core. Each production drum undergoes routine dielectric voltage testing, conductor DC resistance verification, and sheath dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.
