FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why are PVDF and HMWPE combined in a dual-extruded deep-anode cable?
PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride, ASTM D3222) has outstanding resistance to nascent chlorine, bromine, strong acids and hydrocarbons generated at a deep ICCP anode, but thin single-wall PVDF is relatively stiff and notch-sensitive. Co-extruding a 65 mil High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (HMWPE) jacket over a 20 mil PVDF core protects the PVDF from mechanical nicking during borehole installation while keeping the PVDF barrier intact if the outer PE is abraded by coke breeze.
What is the difference between PVDF/HMWPE and ECTFE/HMWPE cathodic protection cables?
Both use a 20 mil fluoropolymer inner layer under a 65 mil HMWPE outer jacket. PVDF/HMWPE (ASTM D3222) is the traditional industry workhorse for acidic chloride/bromide groundbeds and hydrocarbon soils, whereas ECTFE/HMWPE (ASTM D3275) provides higher cold-impact ductility and broader resistance to high-pH alkaline/caustic environments.
Why are sequential footage or metre markings printed on PVDF/HMWPE deep-anode cables?
In a deep vertical groundbed (typically 50 to 150 m deep), 6 to 12 anodes are suspended at exact engineered depth intervals along the borehole. Sequential length markings allow the field crew to lower each anode to its exact target stratum without tape-measuring.
What factory routine tests and certificates are supplied with PVDF-HMWPE Cathodic Protection Cable?
Every production drum of PVDF-HMWPE Cathodic Protection Cable undergoes 100 % conductor DC resistance measurement at 20 °C, high-voltage AC/DC dielectric withstand testing, and dimensional verification per NACE SP0169 / ASTM D3222 / ASTM D1248 / ICEA S-95-658, supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate.
